Recycled Acrylic Passes the Eye Test at Target
Challenge
- Target, one of the world’s top retailers, wanted to test recycled acrylic as a way of evaluating long-term effectiveness within its stores
- The first test was for a wall-mounted sign within Target eye centers, operated by Luxottica
Solution
- Acrylic Design Associates created signage for 51 locations using Recrylic® certified recycled acrylic
- Signs were made from clear material, painted white, with clear letters painted dark gray
Results
- Using non-recycled acrylic for this project would have required about 5 barrels of oil to produce – resulting in 2.5 tons of CO2 emissions
- A full rollout of 1,900 locations would save about 93 tons of CO2 – or the equivalent of taking 20 cars off the road for a full year
- The new signs are not only 100% recycled, but also 100% recyclable, helping create a closed-loop life cycle
